Viagogo Ad Banned for Misleading Claims on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Tickets

Two advertisements from Viagogo have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for misleadingly implying that tickets purchased through its platform could grant access to events, including Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated Eras Tour.

The first of the two advertorials, which appeared on nme.com in June, was titled “The best gigs to see this summer at Hyde Park” and featured a lineup including Blackpink, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, Pink, Guns N’ Roses, and Lana Del Rey. The article went on to provide a link to Viagogo’s website, where tickets for each of the mentioned gigs were available for purchase.

The second advertorial, observed in July, commenced with the phrase “A beginners guide to getting Taylor Swift ‘Eras’ tour tickets. How to avoid the scammers and secure tickets.” It continued by advising fans to use ticket marketplaces like Viagogo for purchasing resale tickets safely, emphasizing the platform’s alleged safety features.

The ASA took issue with these ads, asserting that they breached guidelines by not providing crucial information regarding the prohibition of resale tickets. The terms and conditions of both the BST Hyde Park and Taylor Swift Eras Tour explicitly outlined the prohibition of resale tickets, deeming it material information likely to influence a consumer’s decision to purchase tickets through Viagogo.
